The DIS "education"
It may seem a little different from others

Very commonly, "education" could be defined as
being able to read, write, name objects,
do addition and subtraction, can speak a foreign language, etc.
Where there is a heavy emphasis on what we can do.

Is that really the most important thing?

For example, "to write"
The objective of writing is not to "write"
but by using the expression "to write" to expand your imagination
what to express, create, do
to another meaning of "to write", it is most important.

To store the necessary knowledge and ways
is a very important thing.
Just to store such information will not be the source to live your life.
Not only to trace the right answers, but to think for oneself.
By pulling out the stored information, edit, and molding it
your own way and outputting it all,
you become alive for the first time.

Children try to absorb everything that surrounds them
Children try to send information all around themselves.

There is no right or wrong answer.
It is filled with joy, questions, and imagination.

An education not only to "teach"
It presents a lot of charm located around the kids,
pull out the interest of the children to the experience.
Through that experience, the creativity of each of them,
expression, emotion, and imagination
will continue to grow.
What our "education" aims is to develop and enhance
the treasures that children are born with.

Stop showing the children the road of the obvious,
but if is necessary, teach them only the wonders of life.

The Reggio Emilia Approach is
to honestly encourage the "sensitivity" within children
the potential ability of the children
such as to let them grow naturally(spontaneous)
which is a beautiful educational approach.

We believe that at DIS, children find out
what is really important while incorporating
edcaution based on this approach,
we want to make it a "place" for all of us to grow.

人生の魅力を発見し探究できる
「心の豊かさ」を養うことが、
その後の長い人生を生き抜く、
人生を充実させる礎になる。
DISの「教育」のあり方。
それは少し他と違って見えるかも知れません。

「教育」というと、ごく一般的には、
「文字が読める、書ける」「ものの名前を知っている」
「足し算引き算がわかる」「外国語が話せる」など、
何かができることに重きを置いてしまいがちです。

でもそれが本当に一番大事なことなのか。

例えば、「書く」ということ。
「書く」こと自体が目的なのではなく、
その「書く」という現手段を使って、想像力を膨らませ、
何を表現し、創造するか・したいか、ということが
本来の「書く」ことの意味であり、大事なことだと思うのです。

必要な知識や手段をしっかりと蓄えていくことは
とても大切なことですが、
それを蓄えているだけでは、人生を生きる糧にはなりません。
教えられた正解をなぞるだけでなく、じぶんで考えて、
蓄えを引き出して、編集して、新しいカタチに再構成して、
じぶんのやり方でアウトプットすることで、
初めて活きてくるのです。

子供はあらゆるものから吸収しようとしています。
子供はあらゆるやり方で発信しようとしています。

そこに正解や間違いはありません。
たくさんのよろこびや疑問やイマジンであふれています。

「教える」だけの教育ではなく、
子供たちの周りにあるたくさんの魅力を提示して、
子供たちの興味をひきだし、体験させること。
その体験を通して、彼らそれぞれの、
表現、感情、想像力と創造力を
十分にひきだし、伸長させていくこと。
子供たちが生まれながらに持っている宝物を
大きく育てていくことこそが、私たちがめざす「教育」です。

これは、TIME誌で世界で最も優れた教育と称された
イタリア「レッジョ・エミリア・アプローチ」について
グラッツィーノ・デルリオ（レッジョ・エミリア市長）が、
ジョルジョ・ガーベル氏の言葉を引用して語られたものです。

レッジョ・エミリア・アプローチは、
「感性」に正直に、創造することを促すような、
子供たちの潜在的な能力を開花させ、
自発的に成長させていくような、
素晴らしい教育アプローチです。

この教育アプローチをベースに採り入れながら
子供たちにとって、本当に大切なものを
見つけ、育てるような「場」を
子供たちと一緒に創っていきたいと
私たちDISは考えています。
